Ana... What?
Anam Cara (pronounced uh-nam kar-uh), like many Gaelic expressions have a number of different meanings. Most often, this phrase is translated into English as “Soul Friend” with the modern definition of soul-mate. But in the Celtic tradition, there is a profoundly beautiful and deeper understanding of love and friendship.
It is believed that the soul flows all about the body and when you connect with another being, and become completely open and trusting, your two souls begin to radiate together. With this deep bond formed, you have found your “Anam Cara” or soul friend.
On another level, Anam Cara means advisor, and when you accept such a role for another being, it cannot be taken lightly. To be Anam Cara means being responsible for the best of care and to nurture the other being. It requires one to cherish another more highly than for oneself.
